We have a cuddly orange tabby (red tabby) Siberian kitten available. He is a most adventurous, fun loving and affectionate little kitten. He may be nearly a solid red in appearance with a rich color which is exceedingly rare in our breed.

His name is Pendraig Pasha. He is out of our P Litter born on December 22, 2010 to Sunbeam Lilyana Krasa of Pendraig and Jorrah Karat. He is the last of a litter of five to find his home but we know they are out there, someone special for this fearless little lion in a kitten’s body. This time most buyers were interested in silvers or girls, but Pasha is unique and beautiful though he is not above a good kiss on his tummy and a tickle before he heads off to play more with his siblings.

He is used to children too, as he is handled daily by a three year old boy who thinks he’s Sonja in miniature.

Pasha loves his raw food diet and would love to teach his new owners how to feed raw diets and enjoy the benefits their cats enjoy. He could also go onto our Advanced or General Diets (with commercial foods) for families who could not do raw but when you see how much he enjoys it you may change your mind.

Pasha’s sire is large and his siblings from other litters have been of good size as well, especially the boys. He is a happy fellow and will bring you many years of happiness, laughter and joy. Are you his special home?

New Siberian Kittens at Pendraig

We welcome the P Litter, born December 22, 2010. The proud parents are Lily and Jorrah Karat who have yet again given us a good sized litter of healthy kittens in a rainbow of colors.

We are happy to announce the birth of Pendraig’s newest Siberian Cat litter, Litter P. This is a repeat litter of the successful pairing between TGC Jorrah Karat and our long time queen, Lily. We have 5 gorgeous kittens. 3 girls and 2 boys. We are happy to see more red males including 1 red silver mackerel and one bright red mackerel male. The females are a rainbow as we’ve come to expect from Lily with one silver mackerel, one brown classic torbie female with touches of red on toes and perhaps more that will show as she grows and one blue mackerel torbie female also lightly touched by cream (red) markings and she may possibly be one of the low grade silvers Lily often produces.

All the Siberian kittens are doing well with good weights, lovely coats and the girls have some serious “torbietude”. We are holding two females for evaluation for breeding/show potential homes (one retained for a future Pendraig queen). The rest are available to pet homes.

Lily’s kittens have been placed all over the United States in homes that have dogs, children, single adults and more. They seem to adjust to any situation and bring love and laughter to the families that adore them.

Debut Golden Siberian Cat Litter at Pendraig - Due soon!

We are so excited to announce that Esenia Auric is due in a matter of days with Pendraig Siberian Cat's Debut Golden Siberian Cat litter. This goal has been a dream for so long it is hard to believe it is actually upon us but of course there is still the waiting, the worry that we feel for every mother that is bringing new life into this world and the uncertainty of what types of kittens we will have.

What we have come to expect from the sire of the litter, however, is strong, vibrant, robust kittens with loving personalities and beautiful type. Esenia Auric has these very qualities as well and it is a promising match. For those of you following our progress these years you will appreciate the investment of time, money, love and energy we have put into making the dream of a Golden Siberian Cat program at Pendraig a reality.

This color is truly unique and unlike anything I have ever seen in cats. Though I appreciate the many beautiful shades these cats come in, including the primal and original beauty of the brown (black) tabby cat the Golden and the red have special places in my heart.

Now we are nearly there and I feel like a child at Christmas!

Pendraig’s First Siberian Kitten Litter --– 5 years young

It’s unbelievable but five years ago today we welcomed into the world the first Pendraig litter. Born out of our foundation cat female that came straight from Russia we had a gorgeous litter of reds and torbies. One of the two red females is Pendraig Red Sonja SunFire who became the foundation cat for our red line of Siberian cats.

Though we bought our first Siberian cat in 2003 and started making plans for our cattery in the summer of 2003 the true date I consider having “started” my cattery is the day this litter was born. So Sonja’s birthday is also the anniversary of our cattery’s first litter and a very important day for us indeed.

Only one boy was born in the litter, an odd event for most breeders who seem overwhelmed with males we have always had predominantly females from the very start. Pendraig Ivan SunFire is a beast of a cat, weighing easily over 18 lbs and filling up your arms when you pick him up for a cuddle. He lives a life of love and luxury with my brother.

He was always sweet and affectionate but a bit shy like his mother. He would never make a show cat despite his handsome good looks, amazing coat and huge size but he is a most loved and adored cat by our family.

Sonja had the best type to my novice eye and she was already promising to have an outrageously good coat and the most beautiful green eyes but she was not the biggest boned of the kittens. I had decided to pass on a kitten though I loved them all and breed Sonja’s mother again to keep a kitten for myself. Sonja had other plans though.

She latched onto me and would not be swayed from her choice in family. She would follow me around like a puppy, chirp and call to me and always wanted my attention. It was a good thing I decided to keep her because she is the most wonderful companion and an important part of our lives. She has been a favorite pet of my son since he was just a few months old and she took great interest helping “babysit” him even as an infant. When I was pregnant she would try and sleep for hours if I let her purring on top of my belly (and the baby inside). She loved that I was pregnant and I know in her eyes my son is as much hers as he is mine.

Happy Birthday Sonja and Ivan, and your litter mates. You have brought much joy to our lives and in the case of Sonja you have brought further generation of wonderful Siberian cats into the hearts and homes of pet owners all over the country.

When people ask, “Is it true that the Siberian Cat breed is dog-like?” I have to laugh. The reason is that the description is entirely accurate of most of the breed but especially of Sonja. She follows me, and my son, around just as a dog would from room to room wanting to be a part of our every activity. She greets us at the door when we come home finding a perch as high as possible so she will be at eye level. She will chirrup a hello as soon as we make eye contact and start purring. One is expected to put down whatever one is carrying in order to pet her and say a proper hello. Sonja plays fetch and sometimes even brings the toy back. She is very protective of people and our property and has been known to growl at strangers, or my husband when she doesn’t recognize him, climbing on a ladder outside the window. Her growl is quite serious and you know she is not to be trifled with! In one incident she was slapping the window hard and growling as loud as she could to deter this intruder from assaulting her home. She didn’t realize the intruder was my husband.

Sonja can be territorial as any dog not wanting to share my lap with the new golden tabby we imported from Russia but eventually that has yielded to a grudging respect and I hope they will find friendship one day.

I can say that I fell in love with this breed reading about them and seeing photos, I loved them more when I greeted Sonja’s father at the airport and her mother as well. But my true devotion started when I was staring into those green eyes of a little red tabby female I called “Pendraig Red Sonja SunFire”. Happy Birthday my quirky, fiery, devoted and beautiful little friend. I love you.

L Litter – Siberian kittens 3 weeks old

Siberian Kitten Photo Update

These little guys are advancing with leaps and bounds. They do not want to be outdone by Dica’s kittens and don’t seem to care that they are almost 2 weeks older. Already they are running amok in the nursery, playing and pouncing, investigating food bowls and learning to use a litter box. They aren’t quite ready to eat solid food yet but it' will be any day now.

We are pleased to announce that all the kittens are reserved except one that is being held for a potential breeder and show cat. We enjoy taking photos and videos yesterday as well and hope that you all enjoy watching them grow and thrive as much as we do.

Siberian Kittens Pendraig’s L Litter 2009 Photos

These sweet and darling girl is still awaiting her new name. She is currently on hold as a potential breeder and show prospect.

She is a lovely silver with her sire’s great muzzle and we hope his green eyes as well but only time will tell.

She is calm and sweet, loves to cuddle and we think will take well to the busy show halls. We are setting her up with a new breeder protégé and we hope she gets to enjoy all her potential.

This little girl is going to a special family and as a surprise for one lucky little lady… best not to give too much away though!

She is sweet and affectionate and has an affinity for our small son. She is also very gentle and patient with him so we know she will make a wonderful companion for a loving child.

This little girl has been named “Lada” after the Slavic goddess of beauty. What a fitting name with her flame of red on her head and those gorgeous eyes.

She is going to a wonderful family that we have been pleased to get to know recently. She is also great with our toddler and will make a wonderful companion for a family.

This little girl has been named Leia and it’s a fitting name for this little princess. She has a warm almost honey brown coat coming in that looks so much like her sire, Karat.

She is sweet and intelligent, one of the first in her litter to explore the nursery, use the litter box and today she was investigating the food the older kittens were eating.

This is the single male in Lily’s litter. He may be out numbered but he hold’s his own and he’s absolutely beautiful.

His name is Lazar Leonid, picked out by his future owner. He looks like a silver version of his sire, Karat. He’s sweet and affectionate with me and always says hello as soon as he sees me. He’s definitely a ladies man.

It’s nearly official… all kittens reserved

It’s been a busy month for us taking care of all these amazing kittens, updating new potential owners and responding to tons and tons of applications. Our waiting list is growing and we are so happy to welcome so many wonderful and devoted pet lovers to our future cat family.

As for the litters we have now they are all on hold, all but one is official! We are just waiting on one last deposit to be received.

Thank you to everyone who has picked out a kitten. Many of you had a good long wait and we appreciate your patience. Good things come to those who wait, right?

4 Week Old Siberian Kittens

The little darlings are now 4 weeks old and they cannot be any cuter. They now follow us around the nursery, calling and exploring the world. Today they also started drinking water from the bowl and checking out the food bowl. It won’t be long before they are tearing into their mom’s food. They are also starting their litter box training and have wonderful and neat habits from the start.

This is also when we announce their official names. Thanks to their new parents we had an easy time naming our “K” litter of Siberian Kittens.

First we will introduce the two kittens that are staying here as the future of Pendraig Siberian Cats.

Future Siberian Stud for Pendraig

RAWR!

Our newest stud in training has great potential. He has the classic pattern we love, a lovely silver shade, adorable white paws, cheeks and tummy and the tiniest white tip on his tail.

It’s early to tell but he seems to have a beautiful muzzle and head shape and of course the wonderful Cica coat from his sire Cica’s Zoran Yaroslavovich Black. He’s daring and he loves to explore.

His name is Pendraig Korsak Zoranovich SunFire. We will call him Korsak. He is named after the striking and beautiful Corsac Fox found in parts of Russia and Asia. The fox has a unique coloring that is silver and red.

Future Siberian Queen Hopeful for Pendraig

Captivating, this little girl can’t help but steal your heart. She is like a movie star and we hope she continues to have that dazzle at the cat shows.

She’s also sweet, cuddly and adorable. She loves to greet us as soon as we come into the nursery and she enjoys following our son around.

Today she was the most cooperative for the photo shoot and didn’t seem to mind the flash of the camera.

We have named her Pendraig Kyllikki Zoranovna SunFire. Kyllikki is from Finnish folklore and also one of my favorite books. She definitely deserves to be named after a Finnish goddess… look at that face.

Another Handsome Fellow

The near twin of our beautifully handsome Korsak this boy has the same gorgeous classic pattern and red silver color though his is a bit lighter and will be more silver as he matures.

He has an adorable white tip on his tail, white feet and white throat and chest. He is endearing and fun loving, always exploring and the first to taste water out of the bowl. He is going home with the blue calico girl and they will make a handsome pair.

His name is Pendraig Kafka Zoranovich SunFire. His new “parents'” have named him Kafka. His call name is going to be “Beckett” which I think is very fitting to his personality.

The Bold and Beautiful Girl

We very nearly had to keep this girl. She has amazing heft and is the biggest kitten in the entire litter. She is like a lead weight. She also has the most striking coloring and pattern and her coat is dense and beautiful. It wasn’t an easy decision passing on her for our cattery but I know her future owner is happy that we did.

This girl is a tad more reserved than her sister Kyllikki but she is still outgoing, smart and sweet. She enjoys a good cuddle and will follow me around the nursery. She is very smart and is finding ways to get into trouble much faster than her siblings.

Her name is Pendraig Kira Zoranovna SunFire. Her name Kira was picked out by her future owner and we think it fits her perfectly. It is a perfect name for this bold and beautiful Siberian kitten.

The Beautiful Red Boy

This boy has a beautiful and intense red coloring. He reminds me very much of his great grandmother Sonja.

He is gorgeous and sweet and has a great new family lined up with two devoted new parents. He is sweet and gentle, always ready to cuddle and very laid back. He is also smart and inquisitive.

His name is Pendraig Krasnoi Zoranovich SunFire. Krasnoi means “Red, beautiful” and he is definitely both. We are so proud of this little guy. He has his mother’s distinct spotting too which makes him unique.

Darling “Little Blue” – Not so Little

Now we come to our little miracle child. The tiny kitten born premature and the smallest kitten we’ve ever had born alive. I fretted night and day, did some supplemental feedings and read some very depressing statistics in books and articles on kittens. Despite the dismal odds they gave her to make it two weeks here she is at 4 weeks and getting big. She is sweet and playful but always gentle and kind.

She is our little princess of the litter and her brothers seem protective of her like big brothers should be. She also had a surprise in store for us as her coat is turning smoke so she will be a smoke blue tortie and white Siberian kitten.

Her name is Pendraig Kasmir Zoranovna SunFire and was named by her future owners. She will be going to live with her brother Kafka and has a devoted and excited family awaiting her. From their emails I can already tell she and her brother will be spoiled rotten.

We hope you have enjoyed this photo update of our little darlings. We will start spacing out photo sessions now so I can get a break and so they don’t get too frustrated with flashing cameras.

Siberian Kittens – L Litter – 2 weeks old

Where does the time go? I can hardly know! Seems like somehow between all the feedings, cleaning up, changing litter boxes and cuddle time the kittens are growing faster than I can keep track.

Lily’s litter of Siberian kittens is now 2 weeks old and more adorable every day. The warmth is coming into their tabby patterns and on the girls there is more and more red coming out.

Lily is a devoted, dedicated and loving mother. She enjoys sharing her duties with her daughter and helps to care for her grandchildren.

New Traditional Siberian Kittens

Eowyn and Karat have blessed us with a litter of large and lovely tabby kittens on December 29, 2009. Just days before New Year’s we were glad to make their acquaintance and welcome them into the world.

Now onto the introductions. We have two boys and two girls. This is the “M” litter and we will be deciding on names for them shortly.

Male Tabby Siberian Kittens

We have two wonderful boys. One is darkly handsome and the other warm brown like his handsome daddy. Both boys are large and robust.

The “warm” brown tabby already looks much like his daddy, Jorrah Karat. He has a beautiful almost gold under coat with inky black stripes.His coat already shows promise to be thick like the Cica cats from his mother’s side.

We haven’t had any warm brown tabby Siberian cats born here until this year so it will be a great experience to see his color develop.

The other boy is a darker tabby with the same inky black markings on a darker background. He is large and robust also and his coat is slightly more dense than his brother. It will be fun watching him grow and watching his coat colors change as well.

I expect he will be “Tall, dark and handsome” when he grows up.

Female Tabby Siberian Kittens

We have two big girls with beautiful patterns. One has much wider stripes and almost looks classic. The other has more stripes in a pretty and even pattern that is mesmerizing.

The sweet darker striped girl has inky black markings on a medium warm back ground. These markings will be very striking when she is fully mature. She is showing signs of the Cica coat also.

I do wonder if it is a classic pattern and one more experienced breeder thinks it might be so. It would be interesting for sure and if she is then we know that Karat carries for classic.

The other sweet girl has more of a ribbed type stripe, ideal for a mackerel pattern and showing some lovely color. Her coloring reminds me of my cat Whiskers that I had as a child. Whiskers was very beautiful.

This darling is also the bigger of the two girls and has great promise.

New Siberian Kittens for Christmas

Lily has done it again and this is her last litter with us, no surprise she’s going out with a bang. Her litter with Karat is amazing. This is a bitter sweet moment for me because Lily is near and dear to my heart and has been one amazing mother, a loving and sweet companion and she understands me. I tell her to get in her nesting box and she does, I ask her if she’s hungry and she lets me know, she is going into labor she tells me and wants to cuddle. She is retiring to live with our dear friends and their sweet children, one of which is allergic to cats so she is a very special pet for him. I am going to miss her dearly and cannot help but consider keeping one of these of her kittens. My cattery has had some great success and it is due in no small part to her.

I also have to thank Karat and his breeders. Both Jorrah and Forestwind Siberian Cats have done an amazing job of putting some of the best traditional lines together and Karat has so much to give to my cattery I am so grateful to them both for letting us care for, love and use this wonderful male for the year. I will hope and pray that besides his obviously good looks they also get his amazing temperament and sultry green eyes.

Meet the Boy: A Silver Tabby Siberian Kitten

Darling and handsome this boy looks so much like his father, Karat, only in a lovely silver shade.

He has a promising muzzle already and was born with a hefty weight. He was our first kitten and I wondered if Lily was going to give me some males for once. She has only had a few in her breeding career which is surprising as most breeders complain of having way too many male kittens.

He is definitely on hold.

Meet the Girls: More Torbie Siberian Kittens

This sweet girl has the most red on her than any of the others, at least for now. She has a lovely blazing red head which I noticed immediately when she was born. She is the second kitten born of this great litter.

I am already quite smitten with her dazzling pattern, bright colors and large muzzle.

This girl is also on hold.

This lovely girl is a very warm brown tabby with inky black markings. I believe she is a torbie but the red is hard to find right now so we shall wait and see.

She is lovely and large and if she inherits her father’s startling green eyes will definitely be a looker.

This sweet girl is on hold for now.

This is the darker girl but she is definitely a brown torbie with a half red foot and some dazzling markings.

She is large and quite sweet already. We expect she will be the apple of her new parent’s eyes when they take her home.

She is on hold for a family on our waiting list.

And finally we have this stunning and large girl. She seems to be silver but it’s early to tell. She is so sweet and adorable.

I love her strong chin and big muzzle. Her markings are also quite alluring as they just have that painted on look which I’ve come to admire within the golden line Siberian cats.

She is also on hold for now.

Siberian Kittens – 1 week old

Well, we’ve made it a whole week and eyes are starting to open. The little darlings are seeing us for the first time and their world though I know their vision is still very blurry. They are so gorgeous and this has to be one of my best litters ever, I know in large part it is due to the stunning sire of the litter Zoran and to his owners for their exceptional care of Dica before and during her pregnancy.

The two kittens that were having trouble are doing much better and gaining well. There is still a long way to go but I am very hopeful that they will continue to thrive. “Little Blue” especially has a fire to her and a strong spirit. She is absolutely adorable and even though she seems tiny compared to her litter mates she is larger than life.

Today we convinced Dica to allow us to steal her kittens for a few minutes to take some photos. She was tolerant and as I put them back I could see her carefully counting them and inspecting them. She is a devoted and fantastic mother Siberian Cat.

The Siberian Kitten Girls

All three of these lovely girls are beautiful and each is unique. On the left we have the blue tortie and white (blue calico) Siberian kitten that we are calling “Little Blue”. In the middle, hiding her face is the sweet torbie that may be a brown torbie and white. On the right is a lovely silver torbie and white girl that we are holding for a potential future Pendraig Siberian Cat Queen.

First we have the “Little Blue”. She was born as the size of a preemie Siberian Kitten and had to be supplemented for the first few days of her life. Now she is nursing well from her mother and quickly gaining grown on her siblings. She has a fiery spirit and already loves to cuddle maybe because she received extra cuddles while nursing from a bottle in my hands. She has the most darling red flame on her forehead and a gorgeous blue coat. She may be a blue smoke tortie and white but it’s too soon to tell.

Next there is the darkest torbie. She is probably a silver but we won’t know for awhile. She has the most dazzling and bright colors, a lovely head and gorgeous coat. She competes with the boys often for biggest in the litter though today her sister took her over and two of the boys outpaced them both. This girl is calm and collected and loves to snuggle.

The bright silver Siberian kitten in the litter is this lovely girl. She is on hold and may be remaining here as part of the future Pendraig Siberian Cat Queens. She has the bright silver color we’ve been looking for along with some wonderful potential in her muzzle, coat, head and type. We are watching her closely. Her color pops already and she has a calm demeanor.

The Siberian Kitten Boys

We have lots of red! And how not when I love it as I do? These boys are my pride and joy and it is amazing to have so many all in one litter. They are sweet and cuddly and I adore them.

Our three boys are each unique in their own ways. The spotted boy has been lagging a bit behind on weight but with some supplementing he is doing much better and he is a real darling. He has lovely spots on both sides just like his mother in bright red. He seems to be a red silver but without white unlike the other two. He is a special boy and will make someone a wonderful companion.

His brothers are nearly identical in color though their patterns are slightly different. One male however is lighter and may be a higher grade silver when he matures. Mostly I tell them apart because this male has more white on his back legs and in the right light I can see his coat is a paler red.

He is a large boy, often the heaviest in the litter but sometimes he trades off with his near twin, the other red classic, and the dark torbie girl. He is lovely and and sweet. I expect he will be a large boy, perhaps like his great great uncle Ivan.

He has a handsome pattern that will become even more alluring as he matures and the pattern can separate more and resolve and his silver coat can grow in more fully.

Last but not least is the darker red classic male. He is a sweet and affectionate little boy and the first to open his eyes to the world. His classic pattern is very beautiful and eye catching. It seems to pop out. He is already showing the wonderful Cica coat and we have high hopes for this guy. He is on hold pending evaluation.

We are very proud of this litter and we love each and every kitten. It is wonderful to have such a colorful and happy group of kittens and we cannot wait to see how they grow and to meet their new families who will, we hope, adore them as much as we do. Kittens like these are part of the great joy of being a Siberian Cat Breeder.

Dica’s Kittens… update

This is a great new litter for us at Pendraig Siberian Cats. We continue our prized foundation line SunFire with the help Nadezhda Siberians and their gorgeous stud, Zoran. We are so proud of Dica, she is an excellent and devoted mother and couldn’t be more special or more loved in our hearts and now beloved also by our friends at Nadezhda.

Meet the Siberian Kitten Girls

This is the lovely and tiny little blue tortie and white girl (calico). Despite her small size she is a little fighter and we have hopes she will continue to gain well and survive. Breeding cats is sometimes a very sad and difficult task as it does not take long to become very attached to the little ones especially the ones that need the extra care and love like this little girl. We are calling her “Little Blue” for now and we need as many prayers and positive thoughts sent her way as possible.

This girl is big and bold with striking markings! We think she is a silver torbie but it’s hard to say as her nose looks brownish. Some of our silver Siberian kittens start out with some brownish tones

to their coat and develop the inhibitor gene as their coat grows out. This girl has great promise as Zoran’s kittens usually do and we are very pleased overall with the quality of this litter and the match between our Siberian Cat Dica and the stunning stud that lives at Nadezhda Siberians.

Large and darling this girl is a hopeful for a future queen. We are holding her pending evaluation. She is a beautiful silver torbie with wonderful white markings.

She reminds me of Galina from a previous Siberian kitten litter we had last spring. Her markings are eye catching and we are hopeful we will have a SunFire line female kitten to show in CFA and TICA next year. She has signs already of the signature, and luxurious coat of the Cica cattery’s Siberian cats.

Meet the Siberian Kitten Boys

We have three lovely red boys. The first is the lighter silver classic. He has a wonderful swirl on each side and white back legs. He may have white front paws but it is hard to see in a red silver kitten this young.

He has a thick coat already an a beautiful head shape. He alternates with his near twin for biggest in the litter, they trade off each day with one being a gram or two heavier.

His brother here is almost identical and we have trouble telling them apart initially. He is slightly darker than his brother and has less white on his back legs.

This boy has a really wide muzzle and strong chin already, the great Cica coat and of course a stunning classic pattern. He is on hold pending evaluation.

He is a chunky monkey like his brother and it is cute to watch them wiggle and squirm pushing each other off the prime nursing areas.

Last but not least we have the last red boy who has the interesting and unique large spots similar to his mother. He has a wonderful coat as you can see in this photo and he is a little darling.

He was one of the kittens we began to supplement as he was not gaining as well but we are happy to report that he is now gaining well and is on his way to being a robust red tabby Siberian cat like his great great grandfather, our first Siberian, Boris.

That concludes the introductions! Soon we will get photos to commemorate their first week. Their eyes will begin to open soon as well and that is always a joy to have the little guys start to see us and interact with their environments more.

Pendraig Boudicca Aslanovna SunFire is a mother again and this time she has had a huge litter of gorgeous babies with Cica’s Zoran Yaroslavovich Black from Nadezhda Siberian Cats. We were sure the litter was going to be bigger this time as Dica was large and very uncomfortable this last week but what a surprise to get 6 lovely Siberian kittens.

We have 2 red silver classic boys, 1 red silver spotted boy (spotted like Dica), 1 silver torbie and white girl, 1 blue and white tortie girl, and 1 possible tortie and white girl (she may be classic… not sure yet!). We are happy and excited to welcome these little ones into the world.

Zoran has been a busy boy and has another beautiful litter with our friends, some might even be available if you are looking for a special Siberian kitten to add to your family.

As for this litter they are all unofficially reserved because the waiting list we have is long but with so many born we may have extra room for the other Siberian kitten litters so be sure to get your application in now if you want to make a Pendraig Siberian Cat part of your family.

New Siberian Kittens… for Christmas!

That’s right, its going to be a busy Christmas holiday here at Pendraig Siberian Cats. We have 3 litters of kittens due over the holidays and our waiting lists are nearly full. Our lovely girl Dica is due with Zoran’s kittens (from stud Nadezhda Siberian Cats) any day now. We have a gorgeous stud visiting us from Forestwind Siberians named Karat and he has potentially sired two upcoming litters. One is with Lily and she is due on Christmas day if she is pregnant, which looks likely. The second is with Eowyn who is due for New Year’s Day.

Our girl Pendraig Boudicca Aslanovna SunFire has developed alluring deep green eyes as she has matured. Her coat is very good and her type is showing the promise I saw in her as a very young kitten that fit in the palm of my hand. She has a very unusual spotting pattern with classic that creates large spots that are almost, but not quite, rosettes. She has a generally sweet nature, mixed with the appropriate level of “tortitude”, and is intelligent and supremely healthy. We have been looking forward to his litter for a long time and we hope to get a potential keeper for our cattery to continue the generations of the SunFire line we treasure so much. This waiting list is full for now unless she has a HUGE litter of Siberian Kittens.

Lily is Dica’s mother and she has given us a few great litters. After one more litter Lily will be retiring to live with our dear friends here in Central Texas and we are glad that she will have a home where she is adored by the love of a little boy. There is nothing greater or more powerful than the love of a child. Lily’s kittens with Karat should show serious promise and we hope his large size, exceptional character, amazing green eyes and intelligence will be passed onto his kittens. We know from past experiences Lily produces kittens in a riot of unusual and flashy colors with exceptional personalities ideal for loving and adoring their future human companions.

Eowyn is our shy and sweet blue silver tabby. Her silver is very difficult to see but she passes it on nicely to her kittens sometimes. She is bred to the hunk Karat and we are hoping for wonderful green eyes siberian kittens since both parents have them as well as very large size as Eowyn is a hefty, big boned beauty. Eowyn also has the amazing Cica coat and we hope she will pass that onto her kittens. We are considering retaining one of her kittens so we can retire this lovely girl to a life of luxury.

In 2010 we have some exciting developments including our first litter where Golden Siberian Cats will be possible. Check back for a big update on our plans for the New Year.

Dica’s Romantic Getaway

Our lovely girl Dica leaves on Sept 17, 2009 for her romantic getaway. She will be meeting Grisha’s handsome half brother, the stunning Zoran. He resides at Nadezhda Siberian Cats in Houston.

After this litter we hope to get her on a nice long break. If you have wanted a kitten out of Dica to call your own please don’t hesitate. It will be late next year before she is bred again.

If Dica cycles on schedule she will be bred soon for Kittens in November or December. It is our hope that we will get a gorgeous male out of our SunFire line combined with Zoran’s large size, good looks and amazing muzzle.

Dica’s two kittens from her first litter with Grisha are quite lovely, large and amazing. The male red silver classic Siberian Cat Drako is going as a stud and show prospect to a new cattery. His sister Halinka has already left for her home and is settled in with her new boyfriend and her new momma. Please read our Siberian Kitten testimonials to see how she’s settling in.

We know that our hard work over the past 5 years has finally started paying off and that is in large part to finding a great stud like Grisha and now Zoran. The Cica cattery truly has created some amazing studs in these two boys. We are blessed to have Nadezhda Siberians working so closely with us to achieve this dream come true litter for us.

Dica will leave for her romantic getaway on Thursday and return to us in a few weeks if all goes as planned. Zoran’s wonderful family is going to take great care of our little girl and if it wasn’t for this wonderful friendship we’d never consider using an outside stud in this manner.

We cannot wait to see the kittens these two cats produce. If Zoran’s first litter is any indication these kittens will be amazing.

Welcoming another Siberian Cat Litter!

Our lovely girl Eowyn had given birth to three beautiful Siberian Kittens. We are proud of her and of Favst for this lovely litter with some of the most beautiful colors we have yet to see.

"Johann" - the black smoke and white Siberian kitten is what some describe as a "tuxedo". He is our first Siberian kitten of this unique color. He is a gorgeous boy who will have the smokey black of his grandsire, Grisha but with white cheeks, nose, belly and feet just like Favst. He is on hold for Kate on our waiting list!

"Jehanne" - the tortie female, possibly a smoke Siberian. She looks much like her great great aunt. She is now available.

"Jakime" - is the big and beautiful brown classic tabby male. He is very large already and has a gorgeous swirl pattern that will make many a heart skip a beat. We love this name for him as it is pronounced similar to "Yah-keem" we think! And one of my favorite actors is Joaquin Phoenix. He is very talented and perhaps this boy will be as well.

Two of our Siberian Kittens in their new home! Now YouTube Stars!

We were so pleased to see this video made by the two young ladies who now own our lovely girls Godava and Miku (formerly Gertruda).

As you can see they are settling in well and are already spoiled! Look at all those toys.

This video is so well made and clever, it was such a joy to see them again. Gabriel really enjoyed it and started meowing and pointing at them right away. He recognized the kittens he helped to raise.

We hope their new family loves them and has many many years of joy! We can tell by this video that our girls have a wonderful home. Thank you!!

Introducing our Golden Siberian Cat Program - Welcome Esenia Auric!

Golden Siberian Cats are truly unique. We have long admired this color and have done extensive research to find less popular lines, with lower inbreeding, to bring to our cattery to begin our golden program.

We welcome our first Golden Siberian Cat Queen with open arms. Her name is Esenia Auric and she is from some amazing breeders working with the golden color, Auric Cattery in Russia. Esenia has one of the best expressions of golden, where it is not too orange nor is it dull. Her color resembles my favorite gem, a citrine, with all the glorious shades of gold, yellow, brown and even a pale golden white. Her coat also has a unique gleam that dazzles the eye in the sun light.

Not since red have we found a color we love more and for my husband this is definitely his favorite. Of course Esenia was a present for him and he is quite taken with her. We are fortunate to have this lovely girl, not only a beautiful golden Siberian kitten but affectionate and darling as well. She has truly made us fall in love all over again with this amazing breed.

We are proud to announce the launch of our Golden Siberian Cat program here at Pendraig Siberian Cats. To compliment Esenia we are getting more golden carriers to augment our lines and help us to produce some rare golden Siberian Cats, hopefully! We hope to bring Golden, and lovely warm brown tabby cats into the homes of people all over the United States and perhaps even further.

Seeing a great deal of inbreeding among some of the more prestigious catteries we also hope to bridge the gap and bring genetic diversity back to golden lines. We are in a unique position to do this thanks to our own exclusive foundation line. We are also getting our golden carrier male, a gorgeous silver tabby named Duke from foundation lines that carry golden. Combined we should have some of the most beautiful Golden Siberian Cats with the most diverse genetics available. We can only hope to do our predecessors proud and one day produce the amazing type, superior health and beauty they have become known for in Russia and beyond.

We are also happy to make new friends within the golden loving community as we strive together to preserve this rare color and also to promote it and educated judges and breeders alike on how to recognize and how to breed for these precious gems.

Look for more in the future as we welcome our other golden line Siberian Cats to our Cattery here in Texas. We hope you will enjoy them as much as we do.

Siberian Kittens born to Lily and Grisha at Pendraig

Congratulations to Lily and Grisha who have produced a gorgeous litter of kittens for us! Lily went into labor late yesterday afternoon and promptly delivered all three kittens before midnight. She is an old pro now and didn't need any help. However, she wasn't happy unless I stayed by her side.

We are so proud of our girl with her beautiful litter and once again we are proud to see Grisha's influence in producing some wonderful coats and type. This litter unites lines from the Black cattery on both sides of the pedigree.

We have one spotted red male (looks to be a darker silver with classic pattern genes). We also have a nice torbie that may turn silver by the time she is mature and a girl that appears to be a dark smoke tortie. All are so beautiful!

We know the new kitten owners will be thrilled and all of these kittens are on hold pending reservations from those on the waiting list. This just leaves us with Eowyn's litter which is due in about a month.

Pendraig's Obsession with Red Siberian Cats!

The true love of red starts in my childhood, when I found a litter of kittens in the neighborhood. All the boys were red and the girls were color points that looked much like Ragdolls. I begged and pleaded to my parents and they let me pick two to bring home. The colorpoint female was my mom's but the red boy, he was mine. I named him Tiger. I will always remember him and my love of red has never wavered.

When I found the Siberian Cats it was love at first sight. I had always loved Russia with it's unique culture and history. And here was a piece of Russia that I could have in my home. When I began looking at different breeders I would come back again and again to one that had a red male.

At the time it seemed red was a very unpopular color in the breed. Indeed more than a few breeders told me I was crazy to breed with that color as they found the color impossible to place. I guess they just didn't have the love of reds that I do, and I believe there are many other lovers of red out there. They contact me daily asking for a red kitten!

Out of my first litter I was blessed with 2 red females, a rare treat. One was Sonja, who is a rare red solid with green eyes. She is my pride and joy and like most red cats I've known she is extremely sweet, loves to cuddle and will play all day with my toddler. Sonja is also the carrier of my rare foundation line that is exclusive to the breed.

Sonja had only one litter but her son, Aslan has been a wonderful producer of kittens for us including some beautiful reds. And when it came time to retire Aslan from breeding we knew we could never part with him.

And now there is Favst. Aslan's son out of his last litter with Lily. Favst is a representation of all our hopes as he shows us great progress in type, coat and also he has the wonderful personality of his grandmother and sire. Another glorious red to join the ranks of the Pendraig Red Siberian Cats.

Though we work with other colors, and will be focusing on an additional color that is as bright and glorious as red we will always have a special place in our hearts for red. Announcing Siberian Kitten Litter H at Pendraig Siberian Cats!

Thank you to Dica for giving us this gorgeous litter of traditional Siberian kittens! We have 3 beautiful kittens and for once it is more males than females. These Siberian kittens were born on May 29, 2009 just in time for our friend's birthday!

The proud parents are Pendraig Boudicca Aslanovna SunFire (mom) and Cica Grigorii Yaroslavovich Black (daddy). Dica (Boudicca) is a lovely foundation line Siberian cat with a striking spotted torbie pattern with white. Grisha (Grigorii) is a stunning black smoke male from our friends at Cica cattery. He has the charateristic Cica coat, which is plush and full with the proper Siberian cat feel, and excellent type. The two combined have produced some wonderful kittens that will have the best of both words, good type and genetic diversity which promotes health and vigor.

All three of these kittens are on hold for the waiting list pending review of breeder or show prospects. We expect each to be reserved within the next week. Please feel free to contact us about getting on our Siberian Kitten waiting list for future litters that we have planned.

Now onto the introductions for our lovely Traditional Siberian Cat Litter H Kittens!

We have not decided on names yet but for now they will be H1 for the dark male, H2 for the red silver classic male and H3 for the lovely torbie girl.

Dica had an easy labor and it went by very quickly. She is an excellent mom just like her own and keeps her kittens spotlessly clean and very fat. She is also very proud of them. We have some photos for you all to enjoy!

First H1 - We think he is going to be a lovely brown classic tabby (also known as a black blotched tabby). He has a very promising type right now and a gorgeous head. He has four white feet though the front it is mostly his toes.

He has a nice head shape, good muzzle width and his chin is strong already. He is also well boned and hefty!

We are keeping an eye on his development and he may be going to a great show home if he continues to develop as we hope he will.

He has a bit of white on his chin, his neck and a tiny bit on his belly. H1 is a very handsome little guy!

Next we have H2. A beautiful, and striking red silver classic tabby male Siberian kitten. He is an absolute beauty and with his red silver coloring is very striking. Though his type does not appear to be as nice as H1 he is still a remarkably lovely little guy and will be gorgeous. He will make his new family very lucky.

He also has some white feet, similar to his uncle Favst. We are very proud to have yet another red male in the Pendraig cat family!

He is going to be much lighter in red color than Favst and probably be more like Aslan when he matures except of course he will be a classic tabby Siberian cat.

Last but not least we have our darling girl, H3. She is a lovely classic torbie and like H1 she has already the beginnings of excellent type. We do hope that she lives up to her promise and that we will see her gracing a friend's cattery soon. She has good boning and already a sweet personality that just loves to be cuddled.

We know this little lady is going to be beautiful and will make her new family proud! Right now you can just see a bit of a red blaze forming on her nose. Very striking!

We're writing to you as happy owners of Siberian cat that we've purchased last year from Pendraig Siberian Cats cattery in Texas.

We've selected this cattery after a careful research. The reason we approached a cattery and not a shelter is simply because our son has severe allergies from most of the animals including cats, and we were forced to narrow down on the only hypo-allergenic cat breed - Siberians.

We're very happy with our choice since we've received the non allergenic animal and our son doesn't display any signs of allergies. We're also very appreciative of the fact that we've received from Pendraig cattery a well socialized, potty-trained, and extremely healthy kitten. In addition, we continue to keep in contact with our breeders, they answer any of our questions regarding care for our cat and give us all of the assistance and advice we might need.

We would like to let Texas Senators know that we believe that this bill is unacceptable! It discriminates unfairly against responsible breeders like Pendraig Siberian Cats. We're very much oppose of the bill that regulates the right of any individual to own or breed an intact animal.

In addition we believe that if you want to help lower euthanasia rates, that a NO KILL State is possible! You should probably consider to put in place the reforms to shelters and animal control policies as recommended by the No Kill Advocacy Center!

We would also like to point your attention to the fact that this measures might increase the abandonment of pets and cause shelters to be flooded with dogs and cats as people cannot afford to comply with the outrageous fees and fines! ASPCA is officially OPPOSED to Mandatory Spay and Neuter! ASPCA also says that mandatory spay neuter measures do not work.

Our family strongly oppose legislation that infringes on the rights of Americans to own and raise animals.

We live in New Jersey and were planning to visit Texas. However we're outraged of the prospect of passing this bill, and won't be visiting Texas should you pass the bill!

Favst's First Show

Favst did very well but was rather scared. We are hoping that as we continue to take him to shows he will relax. Especially in July when another cat joins him on the show circuit.

In this photo he was finally starting to perk up though I think it was just to flirt with the pretty Ragdoll next door.

We had professional photographs taken of him by Larry Johnson. Favst wasn't very cooperative and I was pleased with how the photographer got him interested by using various teasers and also talking gently and petting Favst. I cannot wait to see these photos!

Thank you to the great people who put on this CFA cat show! I know with these tough economic times it is not easy for the breed clubs to get the shows going, get enough entries and break even on the shows. I wish we could have attended Sunday's show but we are attending my sister's birthday party instead and it is good as our toddler (and his daddy!) are worn out from yesterday.

We are also grateful to all the people who not only tolerated a rambunctious toddler running around the show hall but many seemed to enjoy watching his antics. The gentleman running the raffle was one of Gabriel's favorite people and they had a blast.

Favst will be an uncle at the end of the month and also have new brothers and sisters . His sister Dica and his mom Lily are due almost at the same time. We look forward to more outstanding cats! Grisha is the sire for both litters so we should see some fantastic coats and type.

Favst was commented on by one judge as having great promise, an outstanding head shape and good boning for a kitten his age. She said she looked forward to seeing him as an adult. Favst's next shows will be in the Open class in CFA and Championship in TICA as he ages out of the Kitten class on May 14th.

Siberian Kittens - 3 weeks old!

We have the 3 week old photos of the Siberian kittens up now!

Godava - The mostly white Siberian kitten is developing nicely. We have decided to keep her at least long enough to get her evaluated by some judges. If she gets a good evaluation then we will keep her on for showing (unless a suitable show home would like her).

Galina - The lovely silver torbie is going to be so beautiful and will make someone a wonderful pet. She is a doll who loves to sleep on my feet on the ottoman. She could possibly be shown but her type isn't quite what I look for in a show cat. She is a striking girl and will have a bright and clear silver color to her. She is still available.

Gertruda - The warm brown tabby, with the flame of red on half her face is now reserved! She is a gorgeous girl also and has very good type. I wouldn't mind having her evaluated either but she will probably leave for her loving home before that. We are so grateful to her new Mom for providing a future home of love and happiness for her.

We are very pleased with this litter of Siberian kittens! Thank you to Zoya the wonderful mom for taking such awesome care of her babies. We've never had kittens so huge and fat. It's wonderful.

Zoya's going to retire to her new home in August after the babies leave. We are going to miss her but she has a very wonderful new Mom waiting for her. =)

The brown torbie and white, Gertruda is on hold pending a deposit. The lovely silver torbie and white girl, Galina is available to a pet home and the striking van patterened Siberian kitten Godava is available to a show home only.

Raw Diet Research - good thing?

We are interested to see that the Winn Feline Foundation agreed to support a study on raw diets in cats. We do have concerns however as even a raw diet can be bad if not balanced properly and many times these studies are useless because of the approach. They are then used to vilify the raw diets... much like the faulty science behind the lipid hypothesis.

We look forward to reading the results of this study and the full proposal. This is a sign of good things to come we hope with more people embracing raw and natural diets for superior health in their cats and dogs.

Although 4% of U.S. cat owners feed raw diets as all or part of their cat's diet, there are no published studies examining whether these diets are complete and balanced for feeding cats or whether immune function is improved in cats on a raw food diet. The goal of this study is to determine whether a commercially produced raw food diet and a homemade raw diet are nutritionally adequate for feedings kittens and whether these diets enhance immune function and improve digestibility. The outcomes to be measured include growth rate, feed efficiency, digestibility, and various blood and immune status parameters. The long term goal is to evaluate ways of improving feline immune function through diet.

HCM Screening on our Boys!

We have excellent news so far in that they received a preliminary "clear" or "good". Both our boys behaved well though Aslan was a bit scared and squirmed.

We will get the official results in a few weeks and it is a great relief to have our first HCM health screenings done with such a good preliminary result. We were hoping to take Lily as well but unfortunately didn't have enough room in the truck with our son as well.

At the next screening we will take Dica and Lily if they are not pregnant or caring for kittens. It is our goal to have all of our breeding stock scanned regularly once they are 1 or 2 years of age.

It is important to us as breeders, and stewards of the Siberian Cat Breed to help prevent major health problems within our breed by screening our cats and maintaining healthy lines. We also donate money to the research fund to find a DNA marker but even if one is discovered we will continue to have the screenings performed.

Thank you to wonderful CFA Region 3 who helped us get our boys screened for HCM. Thank you to Christie for organizing it and helping us get a good time for our appointment to accomodate our drive from Austin and our 19 month old son. Thank you also to Darlene Thomas for letting us use her store Cats Unlimited and for letting our son run amok among the cat toys. He had a blast.

Siberian Cat Updates!

We hope you all have had a wonderful week! It's nearly Friday and we cannot wait for the weekend. We will be working on our raised bed gardens and getting ready to build our chicken tractors!

But enough of the farm updates... onto the Siberian Cats!

We are happy to announce that Dica was put with Grisha, again and this time it *seems* like they successfully mated. We are hoping that she takes this time as it is our 3rd try with the two of them. If she does not we have a dear friend who has offered her male to us and we will try them. Thank you so much for the kitten buyers on her waiting list who have been so patient with this unusual situation.

Also, Lily was due for her next mating so we put her with Grisha a few days later. He's been busy the last two weeks! We are hoping that mother and daughter can have their babies around the same time and Lily can help show her the ropes.

If these girls took we are expecting kittens around May 28th for Dica and June 2nd for Lily.

And of course we still have 3 of Zoya's kittens available to loving homes. See their photos on our Siberian kittens for Sale page.

Siberian kittens in a riot of color!

As promised here are some photos *and* a video! We have another video to upload though it's no more exciting. As the kittens get older and move around more we should have some great fun then.

We are thrilled with the overall size and health of the litter. We are also seeing some nice coats and of course the striking colors are just wonderful. We hope this little girls will have the great type of their sire but the bigger size of their dam. We'd love to see one or two of these girls shown in CFA or TICA but likely it will only the kitten we keep. Show homes are difficult to find in these difficult economic times.

First here is the YouTube video. Sonja, the grandmother of the litter is also there. She had to be part of the scene. Also the strange background noise is our son, Gabriel, making strange noises that kind of sounding like the kittens mewing but on the video sound smore like a Yorkie.

And now for some photos! Here is one of the more striking color combinations. She looks like a tortie and white, almost a van pattern but I suspect she's really a smoke and the red isn't showing well yet. You can also call her a calico.

We are not sure yet of any show or breeding quality though I do have my eye on one that I think will be the keeper for us from this litter. Zoya is being retired to a wonderful pet home so this is her only litter. This is also Aslan's last litter before he was retired so these kittens are very special.

We hope you enjoy these as much as we do and we look forward to meeting the new families that will join the Pendraig Siberian Cat family!

We have Silver Siberian Kittens!!

Zoya has given birth to 5 gorgeous silver torbie and white daughters. We believe she isn't done yet so we will update you all and hopefully add some photos of these stunning babies tomorrow.

Thank you all for the well-wishes, prayers and kind words. I know Zoya appreciated them. She has had an uneventful labor so far though her first litter was a bit nerve wracking for us all. =)

This is our beloved Aslan's last litter. He was altered and is already enjoying the easy life of playing with Gabriel all day, sleeping and eating! No more worrying about the ladies.

As we expected this litter is full of silver! And some kittens even seem to be very silver, maybe even a single shaded silver but it's too early to tell. We are looking forward to watching this litter grow and we hope you will enjoy watching with us!

This is our first litter we plan to video and upload to YouTube and we will be sure to let you know when so you can check it out.

Cats LOVE Raw Milk!

Some kitten buyers come to me and ask, "Aren't cats lactose intolerant?".

And to this I reply, "Absolutely not! But they do have an intolerance to unnatural milk.".

Well, what is unnatural milk? That's easy, pasteurized milk. Milk heated to such a level that the proteins are denatured, the good and beneficial probiotics and enzymes in the milk are destroyed and a void is left for bad bacteria to proliferate at an alarming rate! But don't take my word for it, the Weston A Price Foundation, and www.RealMilk.com have been spreading the word about the dangerous of pasteurized milk for many years.

Now, I must stress caution. As with any food there are important safe handling procedures that must be strictly followed by your local farmer. And of course when you get the milk home care must be taken to properly store and care for it. But this is true of ALL foods!

Did you know that clean, raw milk from grass-fed cows was once used medicinally? It's true! It acts like a "stem cell" food with all the nutrients needed to fully support life. End of the Year Kitten Reports for 2008

The kitten reports are coming in and with them... the wonderful photos!

I cannot tell you how wonderful it is to see the babies growing up, so vibrant and healthy and so thoroughly loved! I am also so pleased at how many homes have embraced natural rearing with raw diets, minimal vaccinations and holistic care. But the most important thing of all is the shining love I see in the eyes of their owners.

I want to thank each and every member of our extended Pendraig Cat Family! Thank you for caring for your kittens and cats so well, thank you for communicating with us despite your busy lives and thank you for choosing Pendraig Siberians as your cattery.

It's that time of year again. Where does the time go?

We've had a blessed year! A new home, a growing and healthy toddler and our sweet and loving pets. We've had a few set backs but with strength and courage we persevere!

This new year brings us new challenges and new hopes! We see our girl Dica maturing into everything we had hoped for and she will also be matched with Grisha or another fine male for a much anticipated litter!

We have Favst born out of Lily's latest litter who promises to be a real looker. He is a gorgeous red classic! It is our hope to campaign our first kitten thanks to this bright, intelligent and charismatic boy!

Grisha has proven to not only be a loving part of our family but an outstanding stud that produces lovely babies. Thanks to Maria and Cica Cattery!

Our son, Gabriel is 15 months old and walking now. I still can't believe it! And we look forward to his second Christmas! It is more like a first because he was too young for presents or caroling last year at just 3 - 4 months old.

Our kitten and cat owners have already begun sending in their End of the Year Reports and these are treasured gifts to us! We look forward to each and every one of them.

We still have two available kittens with us and it is a joy to watch them grow and learn. Deva is a doll, sweet as her mother but laid back like her father. She is gorgeous, with her dad's full coat and her mom's lovely eyes. She is fantastic with children and tolerates Gabriel's sometimes rough petting!

Esfir is the last of Peli's kittens (besides Eowyn who stays). She is a lovely silver classic with her mom's big green eyes. She is smart and affectionate though more reserved with our son.

We've said goodbye to some of our beloved queens this year. Dora was retired and is living with a great family in Austin, TX. Peli is leaving here on Monday for her forever home near Dallas, TX. It is with a heavy heart we see these girls depart but we know they will have all the love and attention they want and deserve without having to compete!

Thank you to all of our wonderful families that have taken one of our babies into your homes and hearts. May you have a blessed and joyful Holiday Season.

CFA Cat Show - Congrats to Grisha our new Champion!

We had a great time at the CFA Cat show here in Austin, hosted by the Eyes of Texas Cat Club! It was our first CFA show and not only were the people friendly and helpful but the venue was excellent with plenty of room to move around and ogle everyone's gorgeous cats.

We met some wonderful people who were ever so helpful answering our questions and the judges were so friendly and willing to offer us pointers and to explain about the different breeds while they judged.

Thank you so much the club for putting on such a great show and to the people of the CFA Region 3 who have made us feel welcome from the start.

And congratulations to Grisha our gorgeous black smoke Siberian cat and to his wonderful breeder who deserves all the credit, Maria Pavlovszky of Cica Cattery.

We're back!!

After a month of computer problems and other issues we're finally back! And we've got news!

Our litters are growing so fast and so big. It's hard to believe every day how big they are getting or that they were once so small. They are a great joy to us! We've added new photos to our website of these little beauties and here are a few for you to enjoy. Only a couple kittens are not reserved yet so please let us know soon if you are interested in one of these beauties.

The first photo is Deva, our little firecracker born on July 4th. She is available to the right home. She is extremely affectionate and is never far away. she follows me around, sleeps on my constantly and has the best purr you could imagine. She is patient with our 14 month old son and loves to be a part of the action in the family.

To the left is our lovely black smoke tortie girl, Fekla. She has an outstanding profile and head and is built like a little bear. She is a potential show/breeding prospect and we'd love to see her in the right home contributing to the future of the Siberian breed. Barring that she'd also make a wonderful and loving pet to a family.

She is sweet, affectionate, intelligent and outgoing. She loves to be the center of all the action around here and won't let her big red brothers have all the fun!!

She is available to the right loving home! = )

Besides these two girls we also have Eva and her sister Esfir two lovely silvers from Peli. They will be ready to go home in November just in time for Thanksgiving. They enjoy lap cuddles and Eva especially loves to help the red boys find more trouble than they know what to do with. We have photos on our website.

We also have available one gorgeous red mackerel and white boy, Feliks (or Felix!). He is sweet, affectionate and loves to eat. We hope he will be as big as his great uncle Ivan who is near 20 lbs at 3 years. His photo is to the right.

South Central TICA Cat Show - Austin Texas

We had so much fun! But it was exhausting with our son. =) He behaved very well though and managed to charm all the ladies in the show hall. He also had a blast "helping" set up the show cages and watching all the kitties.

Doug was supposed to get some photos of our cats as they were judged but came home with only photos of our adorable son. =) The photos were so nice that he was forgiven not getting any of the cats.

We enjoyed meeting new people, seeing faces we remembered from the last SC Regional and we hope we can start showing more often now that Gabriel is older. Unfortunately finding anyone who can babysit all weekend is nearly impossible plus I would miss him terribly being gone that long!

Dora's Little Firecracker!!

What a gorgeous little kitten she is and you can see her handsome father in her as well. She will mature to a stunning smoke tortie with red silver blazing across her face, just like a firecracker. =)

She will be 6 weeks old on Friday and she is available to a loving and adoring home!!

These photos do not do her justice though because I need a new camera. She is not as dark as these look and she is cuddly, and sweet and actually very calm and relaxed. She is also very clever just like her daddy who is always getting into trouble. =)

Happy 6 Month Birthday Litter B!! - Alsan & Lily's Kids 2008

Can it have gone so fast??

How can it be? It seems like just yesterday the were born in the closet of the spare bedroom. I sat with their mother Lily for 8 hours on the floor while she delivered, chatting with some of my breeder friends on my computer to pass the time. Lily wouldn’t let me leave her side so it was fortunate my mother was there to babysit my son, Gabriel.

Lily was in labor for a long time, so long I almost rushed her off to the vet but just when I was getting ready to pack her up she started to give birth to the first kitten. A breach presentation, and a HUGE kitten too. I had to help her get the kitten out and then we were off!

She quickly finished giving birth to 4 more gorgeous babies, one right after the other for the most part though it did truly take a few hours until all was done.

What a satisfying day for us as the litter was gorgeous and each kitten unique in coloring and it is over all one of the best litters we’ve ever had as far as type goes. They were healthy and robust and they are also extremely affectionate and intelligent. We could not be more proud.

Now, 6 months later we are still pleased with these lovely girls as they mature to strikingly gorgeous cats. But what makes us most happy is the new friends we made as we placed them in loving homes. Homes that are dedicated to feeding a natural diet and caring for these kittens following our natural rearing model. It amazes us every day to see the dedication and adoration each and every one of you feels for your beloved kittens that are fast becoming Siberian cats.

We have enjoyed watching them grow with you and seeing the photos and we hope that you will continue to send more! Please let us know how these girls are doing on their ½ year birthday. =)

Congratulations on being such wonderful kitten moms and dads!! =) We are so happy to have you as a part of our family and we hope that we can celebrate many more birthdays together.

Independence Day Kittens - Dora has two silver torbie daughters

It was a busy 4th of July for us here at Pendraig Siberians!! Besides being another hot day here in Texas we had our sweet girl go into labor mid day. By that evening she had given birth to two sweet and lovely silver/smoke "calico" kittens.

The last kitten, Pendraig Clara Aslanovna Sunfire or Sophie as she is named by her new "parents" is now a star on YouTube!

Happy 4 months Birthday Litter B!

It is amazing how fast time flies by!! It seems like only yesterday I sat for 8 hours on the closet floor with Lily helping her give birth to this gorgeous litter of kittens. It was her first litter and labor was prolonged. We very nearly took off to the vet but finally she gave birth to the first, oversized kitten.
Now they are celebrating their 4 month birthday on May 15, 2008!
The new owners have been very busy with their new babies but two have managed to make enough time in their busy schedules to send us some updated photos! Something I myself need to get done with our gorgeous Queen in training Boudicca (Dica for short).

Here is what Bibigul’s owner has to say about her lovely red silver classic and white girl:
She is extremely affectionate, very sweet and feminine! She's also very independent and knows what's best for her! She's strong and playful cat. She can run and jump after the feather or a toy for hours until she looks like a doggy with her mouth open and her tongue hanging outside! :) She loves company and usually follows us from room to room. Did I say she's sweet and affectionate? If she doesn't like something, of just doesn’t feel like being bothered, she would simply walk away but would never scratch, bite, or even hiss at us! I never saw her angry! And she's so well behaved!
Bibi is everybody's favorite! You were so right - she's got stellar personality!

The other girl, registered name Brusnika but her loving family calls her Lizzie is also right at home and doing well. She is totally in love with her new family as these pictures show. And her strange coloring changes every day but becomes more striking and beautiful! It is hard to believe someone called her “ugly”. She is anything BUT!

I checked out your blog the other day. I had to laugh at what Bibi's mama had to say about her climbing her jeans. Lizzie has a penchant for doing the same...but I have been wearing shorts.

She has continued to be very loving. She follows me around the house and we have a routine of cuddling together while I read in the evenings.
Right now she is on my lap chewing up some paper that is hanging off my desk. The computer room seems to bring out the most mischievous in her.
Her favorite spot is in my dining room window. She watches the cars and birds while resting in her favorite bed...a child's shoe box with a wash cloth in it. We have several nice chairs, and of course her cat tree for her to relax on, but how can those beat a cardboard box?

Last night (no picture, unfortunately) she stretched out on my lap in the computer room. She was on her back, fully extended. Forelegs above her head (like superman) and hind legs splayed out. Not a lady-like way to nap at all. I will have to get a picture of her when she does that next. – CK, Texas

We are overjoyed by the love and adoration our babies are receiving in their new homes. We are also proud to have produced such HEALTHY and LOVING Siberian kittens. Thank you to all of our new families for the care and devotion you are giving to your new kittens and remember, we are always here for you!!

To our 4 month old kittens out of Lily and Aslan's 2008 litter we say, Congratulations on your new loving families, may you grow big, strong and absolutely stunning. We are so proud of you all and we miss you terribly but it is wonderful to know you are absolutely adored by your families.

Raising Kittens

It is a joy, to be sure but not always fun and games. Just like children, kittens run amok, getting into all sorts of trouble and can make terrible messes. Sometimes they are still learning to use their litter-box or are playing in another room and can’t make it back in time. Other times they are climbing into things that can be quite dangerous such as the refrigerator or dishwasher. One must be on constant guard to make sure they are safe, secure and have everything they need.
With the troubles also comes the joy of watching them tussle and play, investigate and explore the world around them and sleep in purring and furry piles.
Then the sad day comes when they leave our home and go to their awaiting families. We miss them terribly and there is an empty feeling to the house as they leave. The only way to cope is to schedule their departure in stages so that I am not bereft all at once. However the joy in the eyes and voices of their new owners is beyond measure and heals all heartache.
We miss our babies but we are overjoyed to have found them loving families that are now also a part of our own family. Here is what some of them have to say:
“Our baby Bibi is a pampered princess! :) The boys are soo over protective like she's indeed their baby sister! :) Looks like she's beginning to get her appetite. Today she ate a healthy portion of ground beef mixed with small cut pork, and she examined all our shopping - so cute!

After eating she wanted to cuddle but I couldn't cuddle with her too much because I had a lot to do in the kitchen. Do you know what Bibigul did? She was following me around the kitchen for a while and mewing, but I couldn't pick her up. Finally she jumped on my leg (good thing I was wearing jeans) and climbed on me, like I was a tree, until she's got all the way up to my arms to cuddle!! This girl IS a cuddle bug and really DEMAND attention! :) “ – ONB, New Jersey
“Once we got to the vet, everyone loved her. All said she is adorable, the vet included, "strikingly beautiful." to the list of nice words. She spent some shoulder time on the techs and me. Her health checked out very well. I still have to bring in a fecal sample (they didn't want to do the intrusive test on her...neither did I!). I think I will give them your vet's info and see if we can use that test. They were impressed with her clean ears and lack of fleas. Dr. Wooley said that she must have come from a very good breeder. :)” – Carrie, Texas

Breeders Should Be Ashamed

Lately we've been pushing for help funding the HCM research project. Thankfully the Winn Foundation has backed the research and is going to match our funds up to $5000. However all is not well.

There are an estimated 500 breeders of Siberian cats. Do you know how many have donated even a single dollar to research? Less than 40! That's less than 10% of breeders. This is shameful, disgusting and heartbreaking.

We are the stewards of the breed, we are the ones breeding new kittens, we are the ones who are held accountable when a breed suffers from health problems. We need to step up to the plate here, we need to take responsibility for our breed. It is my opinion that if breeders really care about these cats, their kittens they produce, the future of our breed they will donate even $1 per kitten sold. If they do not then they are just breeding for self gratification either through show wins or monetary gain.

I know that most responsible breeders don't make enough money to break even most years but tacking on a small donation per kitten sale isn't going to break the bank and I'm sure kitten buyers will not only understand but be thankful that their kitten price includes a donation to such a worthy cause.

HCM is a devastating thing for the kitten buyers. Their pet goes from healthy to dying in a matter of moments and they are left wondering what happened. It is up to us breeders to try and prevent this by screening for HCM as best we can and helping fund research that will provide a better means of screening breeding cats before it's too late.

Many people are unhappy about what I have to say and I've faced censorship on some lists because of it but I refuse to keep quite. The kitten buyers deserve to know that their breeders aren't supporting health research. And I implore EVERY kitten buyer to DEMAND their breeders donate a portion of their kitten price to research. And if they refuse, find a better breeder! One that REALLY cares about the future of Siberian Cats.
